November 14th 2009- This past Saturday PC XC competed in the regional qualifier for NCAA in Franklin Park, MA. With a heavy rain storm hitting the northeast and eight HS races on before the regional championships, the course was in very muddy conditions<http://www.digitalphotoconcept.com/2009_NCAA_Northeast_Region_XC_Championship_Providence_College_PC_Franklin_Park.htm>. With the top two teams qualifying for the NCAA Championships and 13 team selected at-large from the various nine regional championships, PC fought for a birth at the 2009 NCAA Championships in Terre Haute Indiana which will be held on Monday November 23rd, 2009.

In the women's race Freshman Shelby Greany finished 2nd overall  in the 6k race with a time in 22:08, with Sophomore Hannah Davidson finishing 5th overall in 22:15. Senior Breffini Twohig and Junior Emma Perron finished 10th and 20th respectively with times of 22:31 and 22:51. All four athletes earn NCAA All-Regional honors. In the team race Syracuse won with 59 points with PC earning the second automatic spot for the NCAA championship with 70 points. This will mark the 21st consecutive appearance for the Providence College women to the NCAA Championships to continue the longest active streak in the country.

In the men's race Sophomore Lee Carey finished 2nd overall in the 10k with a time in 30:46 with David McCarthy finishing 4th overall in a time of 31:07. Sophomore Dominic Channon and Sophomore Matt Terry finished 16th and 25th respectively with time of 31:32 and 32:02. All four athletes earned NCAA All-Regional honors. In the team race Syracuse won with 55 points and Iona finished 2nd with 59 points to both earn the automatic spots for the NCAA Championships. Providence College finished 3rd overall with 78 points and will await for an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. The official announcement will be made today at 5 PM and we fully expect the men's squad to be included in the 13 at-large selections.

Up Next for the Friars will be the NCAA championships in Terre Haute Indiana with the Men's 10k at 12:08 PM EST and the Women 6k at 12:58 PM.
