October 23, 2009 – The Providence College Men and Women competed at the 2009 NCAA Championships this past Monday. The Women qualified for their 21st consecutive NCAA appearance and the Men qualified 13th out of last 14 years for the NCAA championships. Going into the meet both the Men’s and Women’s team were both ranked 21st in the USTFCCCA<http://www.ustfccca.com/> polls. In the NCAA championships team scoring the Women finished 11th overall and the Men finished 20th overall.
In the Women’s race, Sophomore Hannah Davidson finished 37th overall to earn All-American honors. Hannah finished the 6k course in 20:42.8. Senior Breffini Twohig finished 64th overall in a time of 21:03.3. Freshman Shelby Greany finished 89th overall in a time of 21:12.9. Providence College finished 11th overall out of 31 teams with 349 points.
In the Men’s race, Sophomore Lee Carey finished 52nd overall with a time of 30:29.7 for the 10k course. Sophomore Dominic Channon finished 66th in a time of 30:36.6 and Junior David McCarthy finished 84th in a time of 30:47.6 Providence College finished 20th overall out of 31 teams with a total of 482 points.
Monday’s NCAA Championships marks the end of the 2009 NCAA Cross Country Season. Up next will be the European Cross Country Championships in Dublin Ireland<http://www.dublin2009.ie/opencontent/?itemid=1> on December 13th, 2009. The indoor season will beginning on December 4th at Fordham and December 5th at Brown.
