October 31st, 2009 – Kenosha Wisconsin, The PC men’s and women’s Cross Country team competed in the Big East Championships in Kenosha Wisconsin on the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course. With heavy winds and cold temperatures, the men competed on the 8k course and the women competed on the 6k course. Both the Men’s and Women’s team finished 5th in two very competitive team races.

In the Men’s race David McCarthy led the Friars with a 6th place finish in a time of 25:03.3 for the 8k course. Lee Carey was close to follow with a 9th place finish in 25:05.9. Both David and Lee earn All-Big East Honors. In the team race # 14 nationally ranked Syracuse won with 55 points, Georgetown (#10) was second with 61 points, Villanova (#22) was third with 76 points, Louisville (#25) was fourth with 84 points and Providence College (#17) was fifth overall with 97 points.

In the Women’s race Shelby Greany finished 9th overall with a time of 21:35.4 for the 6k course and earned All-Big East Honors. Hannah Davidson was the next finisher for the Friars in 18th place with a time of 21:52.4. In the team race #2 nationally ranked Villanova won with 30 points with West Virginia (#4) finished second with 74 points. Syracuse (#10) finished third with 84 points, Georgetown (#9) was fourth in 92 points and Providence College (#25) was fifth with 108 points, Notre Dame (#30) rounded out the top six with 160 points.

Up next for the Friars is the NCAA Regional Championships in Boston on Franklin Park on November 14th, 2009. The Men will race at 2:30 pm and the Women will race at 3:30 pm.
