Providence Women’s Track and Field Shines At Go Rhody Invitational
Sisson blazes to victory in 3000-meters.


KINGSTON, R.I. – The Providence College women’s track and field team commenced its second semester schedule Saturday, turning in several strong performances at URI’s Go Rhody Invitational.

Friar sophomore Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) was brilliant in the 3000-meters, winning the race in 9:23.41 – just seven seconds off of her personal best. Junior teammate Sam Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.) was the next closest competitor, crossing in 10:01.22.

Another victory came courtesy the distance medley relay team of Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Meg Van Name (Stamford, Conn.), Devyn Pryor (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Caile Kohlbrenner (Sparkill, N.Y.). The quartet crossed in 12:15.48, nearly 14 seconds faster than second-play Rhode Island.

Davidson, a Second-Team All-American last winter, started her season strong in the mile. The senior was second with a time of 4:54.27, just .01 behind the event winner.

Meanwhile, the Friars went 1-2 in the 800-meters. Sophomore Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.) grabbed first-place in 2:22.96, just ahead of classmate Molly McCann (Rockville, Center, N.Y.) and her 2:25.12.

Another highlight was the 400-meters. Freshman Caitlin Abelseth (Voorheesville, N.Y.) was second overall, thanks to a clocking of 1:01.51. Abelseth then helped the 4x400 relay claim second in 4:15.47. The team also featured McCarthy, Laura Isabelle (Troy, N.Y.) and Kelsey Dermody (Norton, Mass.).

Providence returns to action on January 28 with the Terrier Invitational in Boston, Mass.
