Greany Advances to NCAA Steeplechase Final
Junior begins Friar effort at nationals with semifinal success.

DES MOINES, IOWA – Providence College junior Shelby Greany will contend for a national title at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, having cleared the semifinal phase of the 3000-meter steeplechase Wednesday night at Drake Stadium.

Greany crossed the line in 10:05.35, the sixth fastest time overall and good enough to join 13 other competitors in the final. That title race will be run on Friday, June 8 at 7:30 p.m. EST.

The distance standout is no stranger to the event finals. In 2009, she placed sixth in the nation in 10:00.88, earning All-America honors as just a freshman.

Two other Friars will also take aim at national championships this weekend. On Saturday, senior Charlotte French O’Carroll (Dublin, Ireland) and sophomore Emily Sisson (chesterfield, Mo.), the third overall seed, will contend in the 5000-meters.
