Sisson Qualifies for NCAA Indoor Championships
Matthews runs sub-four minute mile; Quinn second at IC4A’s.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Providence College distance runner Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) has qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The sophomore earned the honor with her performance in Saturday’s Columbia Last Chance meet at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory.

Running the 3000-meters, Sisson crossed the line in 9:06.04, shattering her personal best and eclipsing the NCAA qualifying standard by nearly four seconds.

Sisson joins fellow Friar David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) in earning an automatic entry onto track and field’s biggest stage. This year’s NCAA Indoor Championships will be held March 9 and 10 in Nampa, Idaho.

On the men’s side, Julian Matthews (Nelson, New Zealand) continued his strong indoor campaign in the mile, finishing with yet another sub-four-minute mile to his credit. The senior crossed in 3:59.72.

Two other Friar women challenged the 3000-meters in New York. Senior Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) crossed in 9:22.65, while classmate Charlotte Ffrench O’Carroll (Dublin, Ireland) timed in at 9:27.71.

One Friar competed at the IC4A Championships in Boston Saturday. Freshman Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) stormed to second place in the 3000-meters with a, 8:08.11, seven seconds faster than his personal best prior to the season.
