Providence College Cross Country Set For Elite Competition in Wisconsin
The men and women teams are headed to Wisconsin’s adidas Invitational on Friday, October 12.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  - The Providence College men's and women’s cross country teams will travel to the fourth annual University of Wisconsin adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis. on Friday, October 12.  The women’s 6K is scheduled to start at noon, and the men’s 8K is scheduled to start at 12:40 p.m.



Last year at the meet, the women placed 14th overall in a field of 44 teams.  This year there will be 19 nationally ranked teams competing, and 49 teams competing overall.



At their last meet, the No. 28 Friar women took sixth, finishing with 167 points. The Friars had two top-10 finishers in the field of 360 runners.  BIG EAST Athlete of the Week, freshman Sarah Mary Collins (Basel, Switzerland) led the Friars with a third place finish (20:23), and junior Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) placed seventh (20:33). Senior Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.) placed 36th for the Friars, finishing with a time of 21:09, while junior Grace Thek (Melbourne, Australia) finished 52nd (21:24). Senior Sam Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for PC, checking in at 21:46 and placing 69th overall.



Joining the top-finishers from the Paul Short Invitational in Wisconsin are junior Erin Murphy (Easton, Mass.) and freshmen Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Katie Sischo (Jamesville, N.Y.).



The men placed ninth overall of 39 teams at last year’s event.  At this year’s event, the men will be competing against 21 nationally-ranked teams, and 46 teams overall.



Two weeks ago, the men placed fifth overall out of 37 teams at the Paul Short Invitational with 197 points.  Sophomore Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) led the Friars with an eighth place finish out of the massive field of 332 harriers. Classmate Benjamin Connor (Derby, England) turned in his second top-five team finish, claiming 35th place in 24:48. Senior Alex Wallace (Waipukurau, New Zealand) was 45th in the team scoring and 46th overall, clocking in at 24:54. Freshman Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England) scored in 49th place (24:57) and junior Jonathan Hopkins (Bridgend, Wales) rounded out the scoring in 57th (25:01).



Sophomore Liam Hillery (Smithfield, R.I.) and freshman Christian Costello (Ridgewood, N.J.) also will be running at the University of Wisconsin adidas Invitational.
