Providence College Outdoor Track Competes At Brown Springtime Invitational



Junior Patrick Bowler finished first in the men’s javelin to qualify for the

IC4As.



PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field team competed in Providence, R.I. at the Brown Springtime Invitational on Sunday, April 28. Fifteen men competed in eight different events while 18 women also competed in eight different events.



In the men’s 1500 meter run freshman Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) ran a BIG EAST Championship qualifying time with a second place finish. Oakley finished in a time of 3:53.13.



Freshman Christian Costello (Ridgewood, N.J.) earned a first place finish in the men’s 3000 meter run with a time of 8:38.12.



Junior Patrick Bowler (Westwood, Mass.) notched a first place finish in the men’s javelin with a IC4A Championships qualifying throw of 53.96 meters. Bowler qualified for the BIG EAST Championships in the javelin earlier in the outdoor season.



On the women’s side, freshman Kathleen Powell (Wrentham, Mass.) earned a third place finish in the women’s 3000 meter run with a time of 10:13.97.



Junior Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.) competed in the women’s 800 meter run, where she finished fourth with a time of 2:16.07.

The Friars are back in action on Friday, May 3 when the team starts competition at the BIG EAST Championships. The meet will take place in Piscataway, N.J. and will conclude on Sunday, May 5.
