Providence College Indoor Track Sweeps Distance Medley at URI



The men’s and women’s indoor track teams finished first in the Distance Medley Relay at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational.


KINGSTON, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s indoor track teams competed at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational in Kingston, R.I., on Saturday, Feb. 2. The men’s and women’s distance medley relay teams both finished first.
The men’s team finished seventh of 11 teams with 48 points.  Host school Rhode Island finished first with 193 points.
The men’s distance medley relay team of freshman Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand), freshman Austin King (Kempton, Pa.), freshman Joseph Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) and senior Alex Wallace (Waipukarau, New Zealand) finished first with a time of 10:18.13.  Also of note, freshman Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England) finished first in the one mile with a time of 4:14.60.
The women’s team finished eighth of 11 teams with 37 points.  Rhode Island finished first with 160 points.
The women’s distance medley relay team of junior Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.), sophomore Caitlin Abelseth (Voorheesville, N.Y.), sophomore Caile Kohlbrenner (Sparkill, N.Y.) and freshman Katie Sischo (Jamesville, N.Y.) finished first with a time of 12:24.98.
Providence will compete next on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9 at the Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass.
