Providence College’s Ray Treacy Named USTFCCCA National Coach Of The Year

Treacy captured his second NCAA Division I Title on Nov. 23.


New Orleans, La. - Head Coach Ray Treacy of the Providence College men’s and women’s cross country teams was named USTFCCCA Women’s Cross Country National Coach of the Year, it was announced today (Nov. 26) by USTFCCCA. Treacy earned the honor after capturing his second women’s cross country NCAA Division I Title on Saturday, Nov. 23.


Treacy led the women to an impressive seven team victories on the season, including the program’s first NCAA Division I Women’s Cross Country Title since 1995. Treacy has now captured both of the school’s team NCAA Titles. The Friars rolled over the NCAA competition with three All-Americans (top-40 finishers) and 141 points, 56 points less than Arizona (197), the second place finisher.


This season, Treacy also led the Friars to their first BIG EAST Title since 2006 as well as back-to-back Northeast Regional Championship Titles. He also coached senior Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) to a BIG EAST Individual Title, the program’s first since 2005 (Fiona Crombie`05).


For his accomplishments on the year he was named Northeast Women’s Coach of the Year by his peers (Nov. 19) and earned BIG EAST Women’s Coaching Staff of the Year (Nov. 2).


In 30 seasons, Treacy has been one of the nation’s most successful coaches, coaching 59 All-Americans, who have received 162 All-America accolades. He has also coached 13 NCAA Individual Champions in cross country and track, 44 BIG EAST Individual Champions and 11 Olympians. In addition, his teams have captured two NCAA Cross Country Championships, 13 NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships, 21 BIG EAST Cross Country Titles and 20 New England Championships.
