Providence College Cross Country Extends Presence In National Poll

The men jumped seven spots, while the women continue to hold on to the No. 1 spot.

New Orleans, La.

The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams earned spots in the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll, today, Tuesday, Oct. 1. The men jumped seven spots to claim the No. 18 spot in the rankings, while the women have held on to the No. 1 ranking for four consecutive weeks.

The women turned in a first place finish over the weekend at the Boston College Invitational in Franklin Park, Mass. The Friars earned a win over reigning national champions and now No. 5 Oregon along with now ninth-ranked Cornell and 22nd-ranked Boston College. Providence was first with 50 points out of 14 teams in the 5k race.

The Providence men finished third at the Boston College Invitational on Friday, Sept. 27. The Friars competed against now fourth-ranked Oregon, 10th-ranked Syracuse and 19th-ranked Wisconsin. Providence finished the 8k race with 81 points.

Both the men and the women continued to hold their regional rankings. The men remain ranked third in the region, while the women hold the No. 1 ranking.

The Friars are back in action Oct. 12 when the Friars will once again compete at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. at the New England Championships.
