Providence College’s Brian Doyle Named BIG EAST Male Athlete Of The Week


Brian Doyle earns first BIG EAST Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week honor.


NEW YORK, N.Y. – The BIG EAST Conference announced the BIG EAST Athletes of the Week for cross country on Sept. 30. Providence senior Brian Doyle (Swansea, Mass.) was named BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week. The honor marks Doyle’s first BIG EAST Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week accolade.


Doyle earned the honor after placing third at the Coast-to-Coast Battle In Beantown at Franklin Park on Sept. 26. Doyle was only seven seconds behind the first and second-place finishers, including last years’ NCAA Cross Country Champion Oregon’s Edward Cheserek. Doyle finished the 8km course in a time of 24:27.0 and helped the Friars place third.


The Friars will be back in action for the New England Championships on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Franklin Park, Boston, Mass. Races are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
