PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams will host the Friar Invitational on Friday, April 10 at the Ray Treacy Track. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

It marks the second time the College's meet will take place. There is no admission to watch the meet and it is open to the public.

The men's and women's mile will be highly competitive. The men's mile will feature two ex-Providence College track athletes, Julian Saad, who now runs for Boston Athletic Association (BAA) and Kevin Cooper, who runs for New Balance Boston. Saad ran a personal-best 4:01.04 in the mile at the BU Valentine Invitational (Feb. 14, 2014) and is the Friar Invitational reigning 1,500 meter champion. Cooper, who is also coached by head coach Ray Treacy, has a lifetime-best 4:01.82 in the mile. Cooper and Saad will be up against New England Distance's Henry Sterling. Sterling ran at Dartmouth and will enter the event with a personal-best mile time of 4:06.72. Providence College Junior Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England) also will compete in the mile. The men's mile is set to start at 7:40 p.m.

For the women's mile, sophomore Emily Bushey (Vernon, N.J. is coming off of a personal-best 4:28.97 in the 1,500 meters at the Raleigh Relays two weeks ago (March 27). Freshman Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) also will race the mile after a solid performance in the 5,000 meters at Raleigh Relays (16:19.20). The women's mile is scheduled for 7:25 p.m.

Both men's and women's 800 meter events will be competitive. Junior Joseph Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) will make his outdoor season debut. Vercollone will be up against Brown's Henry Tufnell and Christian Bermal who have run 1:47.99 and 1:50.00, respectively. The women's 800 meter will see some inter-team competition. Reigning Friar Inviational 800-meter champion junior Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) will step up to the line with senior Caitlin Abelseth (Voorhessville, N.Y.). Senior Taylor Corder (Corinth, Miss.) also will be one to watch in her 800-meter debut. The men's 800 meters will begin at 6:05 p.m., while the women's 800 meter race will begin before the men at 5:55 p.m.

In the distance events, the men's 5,000 meters will feature freshman Thomas O'Neill (Middletown, N.J.) and sophomore Hugh Armstrong (Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland), while the women's 3,000 meters will showcase BIG EAST Athlete of the Week Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.). Mullins showed significant improvements during the indoor track season with personal bests in the 3,000 and 5,000 meter events. The men's 5,000 meters will start at 7:55 p.m., while the women's 3,000 will kick-off at 6:30 p.m.

Additionally, the Friar Invitational will host its first women's steeplechase event. Senior Caile Kohlbrenner (Sparkill, N.Y.) and sophomore Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Spring, N.Y.) will face off in the steeplechase.

"The meet provides a great opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd," Head Coach Ray Treacy said.
