Sisson Crowned NCAA Champion

EUGENE, Ore. - Providence College Graduate-student Emily Sisson was crowned the 2015 NCAA Outdoor 5,000 meter champion today (June 13). Sisson crossed the line in a time of 15:34.10 in her final race to claim her second NCAA title and cap off a stellar career as a Friar.

Sisson dominated her final collegiate race from start to finish. She went straight to the front to lead through the first mile in 4:59. Through two miles, the lead pack had diminished to a group of eight runners, with Sisson looking strong at the front.

With a packed Hayward Field crowd of 11,734 fans watching the race unfold, Sisson picked up the pace to instantly create a gap between her and the rest of the field. With 800-meters remaining, she had over a 50-meter lead and never looked back.

"It was great to see Emily win an outdoor title the way she did," said Head Coach Ray Treacy. "She was the only runner in the distance events that lead the race from start to finish and won. She went in as the most dominant person and proved it. It was a great end to her collegiate career.
