Providence College Men’s and Women’s Track Compete At URI Coaches Invitational
The men finished third with 77 points, including three first-place finishes.

Kingston, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s track teams competed at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational on February 6 in Kingston, R.I. The men came away with a third place finish after collecting 77 points, including three first-place finishes in the 1,000 meters and the 3,000 meters.

On the women’s side, graduate-student Devyn Pryor (Dartmouth, Mass.) captured a third-place finish in the 800 meters are crossing the line in a time of 2:16.97. In the 3,000 meters, sophomore Mackenzie Barry (Needham, Mass.) and senior Kathleen Powell (Wrentham, Mass.) collected second and third place. Barry finished in a time of 10:05.38, while Powell crossed the line in 10:32.77. The distance medley relay teams, including Pryor, junior Emily Bushey (Vernon, N.J.), junior Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and senior Lauren Basile (Watertown, Mass.), also came away with a top-3 finish (12:20.38).

All-in-all the women’s team finished the meet sixth with a total of 32 points.

For the men, senior Joseph Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) and senior Stephen Robertson (Wakefield, Mass.) highlighted the day. Vercollone won the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:27.43, while Robertson collected the win in the 3,000 meters (8:38.22).

The men’s distance medley relay team, including senior Harvey Dixon (Gibraltar, Gibraltar), graduate-student Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland), and sophomores Brian Zied (Ramsey, N.J.) and Andrew Doherty (Taunton, Mass.) also captured a win (10:24.81).

Additionally, the men swept the top-3 spots in the 3,000 meters. Robertson was followed by senior Christian Costello (Ridgewood, N.J.) and junior Jake Feinstein (Sandy Hook, Conn.), who grabbed second (8:42.82) and third (8:43.02), respectively.

In the mile, Quinn finished second in a time of 4:18.27, while Dixon also came away with a top-3 finish after placing second in the 800 meters (1:53.73).

The men finished the day with 77 points, giving them an overall third-place finish.

The Friars will return to action next weekend at the Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass. on February 12 and 13.
