Ilarda, Oakley Shine On Day One of Penn Relays

The Friars competed in the distance events on the first day of competition.



PHILADELPHIA, PENN. – The Providence College track and field team competed at the 123rd annual Penn Relays on Thursday, April 28.



Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) began the night on a strong note for the Friars. Competing in her first steeplechase of the year, Ilarda won the meet with a time of 9:57.22. With the victory, Ilarda became the 16th woman in Friar history to win an individual title at the Penn Relays.  The time was a two second personal best for Ilarda and was the fastest time ever run by a collegiate athlete at Penn Relays.



Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) was another bright spot for Providence. Oakley made his career debut in the 5,000 meters by finishing third overall in a time of 13:55.45. The time is currently the fastest in the BIG EAST.



Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W. Va.) also made her debut in the 5,000 meters. Paladino took fifth in a time of 16:23.58.



Providence will race a men’s Distance Medley Relay on Day Two of Penn Relays on Friday, April 28.
