Providence Track Opens Indoor Season

The Friars competed at the Fordham Classic and BU Season Opener.

BOSTON, MASS. – The Providence College men’s and women’s Indoor Track teams opened up their seasons at the Fordham Classic and the Boston University Season Opener. The Friars competed at Fordham on Dec. 1st and at the BU Season Opener on Dec. 2nd.

Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W. Va.) in the women’s 3,000 meters was the highlight of the BU Season Opener for the Friars. Competing in a strong field, Paladino immediately positioned herself right behind the pacer. Due to a quick pace, Paladino was a part of a lead pack of three that broke away from the rest of the field. She would finish third overall with a time of 9:05.10. The time was a 23 second personal best for Paladino and looks to be one of the top times in the country this season.

Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) ran a strong race in the mile. Carleo positioned himself in the middle of the pack and remained there for the majority of the race. He would make a move over the final 200 meters to finish second overall in a time of 4:06.22

Liam Harris (Douglas, County Cork, Ireland), Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) and Aaron Hanlon all competed in the 5,000 meters. Harris and Crawley raced in the first heat, finishing eighth (14:23.28) and 10th (14:28.39), respectively. Hanlon finished fourth in the second heat with a time of 14:29.47. Former Friar Julian Oakley ’16 ran the fastest time of the day in the 5,000 meters, winning the meet with a time of 13:49.55.

At the Fordham Classic, eight Friars finished in the top three in their events.

Ryan Jendzejiec, 800 meters, 2nd, 2:00.21
