LOUISVILLE, KY. – The Providence College women’s cross country team raced at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday, Nov. 18. It was the 28th time in the last 29 years that Providence has competed at the NCAA Championships. The Friars finished 16th out of 31 teams.

Through the first mile, the vast majority of the field remained closely bunched together. It was not until after the 2,000-meter mark that the pace began to really pick up. The eventual leader broke away from the field right before 4,000-meters.

Graduate student Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) was the top finisher for Providence. Rocha fought hard over the course of the race to finish 61st overall (20:25.5).

Senior Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W. Va.) moved up well over the final 2,000 meters to be the second finisher for Providence in 68th (20:29.1).

Senior Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) and sophomore Abbey Wheeler (Pine City, N.Y.) finished in 92nd (20:38.9) and 101st (20:43.9), respectively.

Senior Mackenzie Barry (Mendham, N.J.) rounded out the scoring for the Friars with a 202nd place finish (21:38.5).
