Track Ready For BIG EAST Indoor Championships
The Friars will travel to the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. on Feb. 23 and 24.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. for the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 23 and 24th. The Championships will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network. The stream can be accessed via the FoxSportsGo app on a mobile device or tablet. Friar Women To Look Out For
Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W.Va.), the reigning BIG EAST Champion in the mile, will be stepping up in distance and racing the 3,000 meters at the BIG EAST Championships. Paladino enters the meet with the fastest time in the conference after running a blazing 9:05.10 at the BU Season Opener in December. Mackenzie Barry (Mendham, N.J.) will also be racing in the 3,000 meters. The women’s 3,000 meters is set to start at 1:00 <calendar:T1:1:00> p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24.
Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) and Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) will both be looking for strong results in the 5,000 meters. Rocha will look to add an indoor 5,000-meter title to her resume after having previously won the outdoor 5,000 meters (2016) and individual cross country title (2017). This will be Rocha’s season debut in the event but she enters the meet with a personal best time of 16:03.44. The BIG EAST Championships will mark Wheeler’s indoor debut in the 5,000 meters. Last spring, Wheeler raced to a time of 16:10.70. She has been running well this winter, having set a personal best of 9:18.86 in the 3,000 meters at the BU Terrier Invitational. The women will race the 5,000 meters at 2:10 <calendar:T1:2:10> p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23.

Women’s 2017 Championship Recap
Last year at the BIG EAST Championships, the women’s team captured a seventh-place finish (38 points). The meet was highlighted by Millie Paladino’s victory in the mile. Brianna Ilarda another top performer for the Friars as she finished second in the 3,000 meters and anchored the women’s Distance Medley Relay team to a second place finish.
Friar Men To Look For
Michael O’Leary (St. James, N.Y.) will compete in the mile for the Friars at the 2018 BIG EAST Indoor Championships. O’Leary finished 10th in the mile at the 2017 edition of the BIG EAST Championships. O’Leary ran a personal best time of 4:06.80 at the BU Terrier Invitational and currently ranks ninth in the conference. Thomas Arbeiter (Ellington, Conn.) and McGrath Bissaillion (Merrimac, Mass.) will also race in mile. The trials will take place at 11:45 <calendar:T1:11:45> a.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 with the final set to take place the following day at 11:10 <calendar:T1:11:10> a.m.
Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) and Kevin Quinn (Needham, Mass.) will be the two Friars racing in the 3,000 meters. Crawley will look to improve upon his 2017 result when he finished eighth. The 3,000 meters is set to start at 1:15 <calendar:T1:1:15> p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24.
Aaron Hanlon (Drogheda, Ireland) and Austin Scola (Medfield, Mass.) will compete in the 5,000 meters for Providence. Hanlon finished sixth in the event at the 2017 BIG EAST Indoor Championships. Scola enters the meet after having set a new personal best in the event at the BU Valentine Invitational (14:44.60). The 5,000 meters will start at 2:30 <calendar:T1:2:30> p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23.
Michael Bittner (Cranston, R.I.) enters the BIG EAST Championships ranked sixth in the high jump. The freshman will look to make an impact in his first BIG EAST Championships. The high jump trials and finals will start at 1:15 <calendar:T1:1:15> p.m. at Saturday, Feb. 24.

Men’s 2017 Championship Recap
The men’s track team earned a seventh place finish at the 2017 BIG EAST Indoor Championships with 22 points. Hugh Armstrong was the lone All-BIG EAST selection after earning a third place finish in the 5,000 meters. Nick Carleo turned in a pair of solid performances, helping the distance medley relay team finish fourth and the 4x800 relay team finish fifth.
