<p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class="BasicParagraph"><b>TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -</b> The Providence College men’s cross country team, which was ranked 26th in the nation, placed 22nd out of 31 teams with 530 points at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships on
November 21. The event was held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind.</p>
<p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class="BasicParagraph"> </p>
<p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class="BasicParagraph">Senior David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) led the Friar men’s team, finishing 31st. McCarthy crossed the line of the 10k course in a time of 30:14.90. Lawi Lalang, a freshman at the University of Arizona,
won the individual race in 28:44.10. Wisconsin captured the team title with 97 points.</p>
<p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class="BasicParagraph"> </p>
<p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class="BasicParagraph">Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand), Julian Matthews (Nelson, New Zealand), Benjamin Connor (Derby, England) and Ahmed Ali (Boston, Mass) joined McCarthy in scoring for the Friars. Channon finished the
race 54th with a time of 30:34.90 followed by Matthews in 93rd place (30:57.70), Connor in 175th place (31:56.80) and Ali in 177th place (31:59.30).</p>

<p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class="BasicParagraph">“We were happy to finish higher than our ranking, even with Shane [Quinn] unable to finish the race,” Providence College Head Coach Ray Treacy said. “All in all, it was a solid performance.”</p>

<p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class="BasicParagraph">Today’s race marked the 16th time out of the last 17 seasons that the men’s team has advanced to the NCAA Championships. The squad now will return home for a brief rest before starting the 2011-12 indoor
track season in New York at the Fordham Quad Meet on December 2.</p>
