<p style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 10pt" class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; COLOR: black">Laura Nagel named BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award winner for women’s cross country.</span></b></p>
<p style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 10pt" class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; COLOR: black">PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
</span></b><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; COLOR: black">The BIG EAST Conference announced the winners of the 2012-13 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards today (June 20, 2013) and Providence College junior Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand)
was named the women’s cross country winner. </span></p>
<p style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 10pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; COLOR: black">The BIG EAST Faculty Athletics Representative Council gives the awards to one student-athlete in each BIG EAST-sponsored sport based on their athletic
accolades or performances, academic credentials and volunteer service to the community. Those student-athletes who have attained junior academic standing and a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or higher are eligible.

<p style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 10pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; COLOR: black">Nagel earned All-America honors at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championship, finishing 35<sup>th</sup> overall and helping the team to a national
runner-up showing. She also placed fourth at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship.</span></p>
<p style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 10pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; COLOR: black">Along with her athletic achievements, Nagel is a Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC<a></a><a></a>) member and completed numerous volunteers
services throughout the 2012-13 year. She assisted at the St. Vincent De Paul ‘Friends of the Poor Walk/Run Road Race,’ raised money for the American Cancer Society by participating at the 2013 Relay for Life and mentored the La Salle Academy<a></a> girls
cross country team to help empower them to use running for something other than its surface level.</span></p>
<p style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 10pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; COLOR: black">Among the other schools nominated, Notre Dame had a league-high five individuals honored by the conference, while Louisville had four and Marquette,
Seton Hall and Villanova had three each.</span></p>
