<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Madison, Wis.- </b>The Providence College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Oct. 14. Racing against the strongest field in the regular season, the women finished third in the Championship
6k and the men finished 19<sup>th</sup> in Championship 8k. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In the women’s Championship 6k, Sarah Mary Collins (Basel, Switzerland) had a strong start and went right to the front. At the 2,000-meter mark, Collins was in second place overall. Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) also had a solid start
and was in 33<sup>rd</sup>. Abbey Wheeler (Pine City, N.Y.), Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W.Va.) and Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) all went through the 2,000-meter mark with the same time (7:01) but were separated due to the density of the pack. Wheeler was
in 59<sup>th</sup>, Lembo was in 64<sup>th</sup> and Paladino was in 68<sup>th</sup> at the 2,000-meter mark. As a team, the women were in third place at this point in the race.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">From the 2,000-meter mark to the 4,000-meter mark, Lembo moved up to 29<sup>th</sup> place. At this point, the team remained in third place with 180 points while Washington was in first with 96, and NC State in second with 162.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Over the final 2,000 meters, Lembo, Paladino and Wheeler moved up but the point gap proved to be too great. The women finished in third place with 170 points. Washington won the meet with 124 points and NC State finished second with 166
points. Collins was the first Friar across the line, finishing in 16<sup>th</sup> place (20:33). Lembo was the second Friar in 27<sup>th</sup> place (20:43), followed by Ilarda in 37<sup>th</sup> (20:49), Paladino in 38<sup>th</sup> (20:50) and Wheeler in
52<sup>nd</sup> (20:59). Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Mackenzie Barry (Mendham, N.J.) rounded out the top seven, finishing 97<sup>th</sup> (21:23) and 116<sup>th</sup> (21:37), respectively.

<p class="MsoNormal">“I am quite happy with where we are right now,” said Coach Ray Treacy. “I see further improvement over the next five weeks.”<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The men’s 8k started shortly after the women finished. The race bunched up early and the traffic caused Aaron Hanlon (Drogheda, Ireland) and Nicolas Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) to fall 400 meters into the race.

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The men’s race remained tightly packed through the halfway point when the leaders quickened the pace. Hugh Armstrong (Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland), Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) and Stephen Robertson (Wakefield, Mass.) responded
well to the move, working their way through the field over the last 3k. Armstrong led the team on the day, finishing in 42<sup>nd</sup> place (24:32) with Oakley finishing 73<sup>rd</sup> (24:50) and Robertson finishing 99<sup>th</sup> (25:01). Rounding out
the scoring for the Friars was Trevor Crawley in 131<sup>st</sup> (25:19) and Hanlon in 142<sup>nd</sup> (25:22). The team finished 19<sup>th</sup> on the day.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Earlier in the day, Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Samantha Jones (Randolph, N.J.) also raced, competing in the women’s open race. Hollowood had a strong start and immediately worked her way into the lead pack. Through 2,000
meters, Hollowood was in ninth place before a strong move by a runner from Texas A&M broke the pack open. Hollowood finished in 20<sup>th</sup> place (21:58). Jones ran mid-pack for the entire race, finishing in 38<sup>th</sup> place (22:18) for her season
debut. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The Friars next race at the CCSU Mini Meet on Oct. 21<sup>st</sup>. Providence will race a “B” team.
