color:#212121"> – The Providence College women’s cross country team captured the 2016 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in the
Bronx, N.Y. today (Nov. 11). For the women, it was the team’s fourth NCAA Northeast Regional title in the last five years (2015 1<sup>st</sup>, 2014 2<sup>nd</sup>, 2013 1<sup>st</sup>, and 2012 1<sup>st</sup>). The Friars scored 50 points, and placed first of
37 teams, as they had three runners in the top seven and easily defeated second-place Harvard (71 points) over the 6K course. With the victory the Friars earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, Nov.
19. It will mark the team’s 27<sup>th</sup><span> </span>appearance at the NCAAs in the last 28 years.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<span style="font-family:Calibri;color:#212121">The women’s team was led by graduate student Sarah Collins (Basel, Switzerland) as she placed fourth in a time of 20:21.12. Junior Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) and junior Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W.Va.)
also finished in the top seven for the Friars. Ilarda was fifth (20:29.94) and Paladino placed seventh (20:38.92). Rounding out the scoring for Providence was freshman Abbey Wheeler (Pine City, N.Y.) and junior Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.). Wheeler was
16<sup>th</sup><span> </span>(20:54.45) and Lembo was 18<sup>th</sup><span> </span>(20:58.27). Collins, Ilarda, Paladino, Wheeler and Lembo all earned All-Region Honors for finishing in the top 25.

<span style="font-family:Calibri;color:#212121">The Friar men’s squad finished fourth of 35 teams as graduate student Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) was the team’s top finisher, placing sixth in a time of 30:40.32. Senior Hugh Armstrong (Ballina, County
Mayo, Ireland) and graduate student Stephen Robertson (Wakefield, Mass.) also had strong races, finishing in 13<sup>th</sup> (30:49.78) and 24<sup>th</sup> (31:17.94), respectively. Oakley, Armstrong and Robertson all earned All-Region Honors for their top
25 finishes. The top two teams at each NCAA Regional Championship earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The Friar men’s squad will hope to earn an at-large bid, which will be announced on Saturday, November 12.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
