<b>Paladino Claims BIG EAST Mile Title On Day Two of BIG EAST Championships<o:p></o:p></b></p>

</b>The Providence College men’s and women’s track teams competed at the second day of the BIG EAST Indoor Track Championships at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex on Feb. 25.

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Cambria;">The highlight of the meet for the Friars was Millie Paladino’s (Morgantown, W. Va.) mile race. A group of three separated from the rest early in the race with Paladino placing herself
in third. This group stayed together until a move was made with 400 meters remaining. Paladino then moved into second and stayed behind the leader until the final 50 meters. It was then that Paladino put in a final surge to win the mile in a time of 4:39.80.
Paladino is the fourth Providence woman to win the mile and the first to do so since 2002.

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Cambria;">Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) and Abbey Wheeler (Pine City, N.Y.) both had scoring runs in the women’s 3,000 meters. Ilarda took the lead and began pushing the pace with a mile
remaining. Ilarda’s move broke up the field and led until the final 400 meters when the eventual winner surged to the lead. Ilarda remained close, finishing in second place with a time of 9:20.10. Wheeler finished in sixth place with a time of 9:39.15.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Cambria;">Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) competed in the men’s 3,000 meters. A quick early pace separated the race into two groups. Crawley raced in the chase pack throughout the entire race
as they slowly passed runners who were falling off of the top group. Crawley ended up finishing in eighth place with a personal best time of 8:17.30.

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Cambria;">The other finals on the track during the second day were the men’s and women’s 4x800 meter relays. The women’s team was made up of Alexandra DeCicco (Holtsville, N.Y.), Paladino, Katie
Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) and Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.). The team raced to a fifth place finish with a time of 9:11.51.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Cambria;">The men’s team was made up of James Campbell (Cumberland, Maine), Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.), Marcus Karamanolis (Wellington, New Zealand) and Michael O’Leary (St. James, N.Y.).
The men’s team also finished in fifth place with a time of 7:42.10.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Cambria;">The men’s and women’s 4x400 meter relay teams each scored for the Friars as well. The women’s team of Mariah O’Gara (Tauton, Mass.), Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.), Liz Dougherty (Yorktown
Heights, N.Y.) and Bridget Gonsalvez (Baltimore, Md.) finished in eight place with a time of 4:07.21. The men’s team of Joseph Hurton (Wakefield, Mass.), Jared Grossi (Warwick, R.I.), Campbell, and Doug Degolyer (Summit, N.J.) finished in sixth place with
a time of 3:27.14.<o:p></o:p></p>
