October 02, 2009 – On Friday the Men and Women competed at the Notre Dame Invitational on the South Bend campus golf course. The women entered the meet ranked 12th in the nation with 12 teams competing ranked in the top 35. The men entered the meet ranked 15th in the nation with 11 teams in the meet ranked in the top 35.  With the weather turning cold and raining, PC women ended up finishing 8th overall and the men finished 2nd overall.

In the women’s race Sophomore Hannah Davidson lead the Friars with a 28th place finish in a time of 17:19. Freshman Shelby Greany finished 42nd overall in a time of 17:28 with Senior Captain Breffini Twohig placing 43rd in a time of 17:32.

In the men’s race, Sophomore Lee Carey and Junior David McCarthy work together in the lead pack until the last 600m, with Carey finishing strong in 4th place with a time of 23:50. David, who just came over a small case of the flu last week, finished well in 7th place with a time of 24:01.  Senior Hayden McCarty after a slow start moved successfully through the field to finish strong in 22nd place with a time of 24:18. In other news, early in the race Sophomore Julian Matthews was tripped and spiked in his hand, causing him to not finish.

Up next for the Friars on October 10th will be the New England Championships<http://www.neicaaa.org/> in Franklin Park, where PC’s 8th through 14th runners will be racing.

The squad who raced today will not race again until October 16th for the women at PSU and October 17th at Pre-Nationals for the men.
