2010 NCAA Track & Field Championships, Eugene Oregon

Shelby Greany finished 4th in her heat and qualified for Saturday’s final of the steeple at the NCAA Championships in Eugene Oregon. The preliminary round of the steeple on Thursday was competed in heavy rain and wind; Shelby’s time was the 5th fastest time of the day and also set a new American Junior Record of 10:04.88. (Shelby surpassed Colorado’s Emma Coburn’s record time of 10:06.21 set in 2009.) Emma Coburn was the eventually winner of Shelby’s heat on Thursday with a time of 9:59.69 and fastest time of the day.
Shelby ran a very aggressive race staying in the top 5 positions the whole race. With finish line splits of 43.42 (2), 2:01.95 (78.53) (5), 3:22.21 (80.27) (1), 4:42.55 (80.34) (1), 6:03.43 (80.88) (2), 7:24.51 (81.09) (2), 8:45.50 (80.99) (3), 10:04.88 (79.38) (4). (Finish line time (400m split) (position)!

Saturday’s final of the Women’s Steeple is schedule for 10:54 am (PST) and may be shown during the live broadcast on CBS.

On Wednesday night, Senior Katie DiCamillo finished 18th in the 10k with a new personal best of 33:53.61. Despite getting sick the night before the race, Katie ran a competitive race in the rainy conditions with her first 5k in 16:46.

In the men’s meet on Thursday, Sophomore Julian Matthews finished 9th in his heat with a time of 3:50.63. With a slow first 300m of 52.04, the race quickly picked up with the next three 400m raced in 60.45, 56.92, and 61.24.
