[Pcalumnixctrack] 9 PC athletes qualify to 1st round of NCAA Championship

This up coming weekend will be the 1st round of the NCAA Championships East Preliminarily Round at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, NC on May 27-29. Providence College has had the most ever athletes qualify for the NCAA Championships with 9 total athletes making it, 5 women and 4 men. The qualifying procedure this year was a descending order list for the East and West Preliminarily Rounds with the top 48 athletes declared in each event will compete in the 1st preliminarily round, in hopes to qualify to the final round at the University of Oregon on June 9-12, 2010.

The Women will have Senior Katie DiCamillo in the 10k who is ranked 6th out of the 48 athletes with a season best of 33:57.10. All 48 athletes will compete on Thursday night with the top 12 advancing to Eugene. Freshman Shelby Greany is ranked 4th in the steeple out the 48 athletes with a season best of 10:08.66. The steeple will have one round this weekend of 3 heats and the top 3 from each heat and the next 3 fastest times will qualify for Eugene. PC has two athletes qualified in the 5k, Junior Emma Perron who is ranked 40th with a season best of 16:40.07 and Freshman Samantha Roecker who is ranked 44th with a season best of 16:43.78. The 5k will have one round of two heats at Greensboro, with the top 5 and the next two fastest times qualifying for Eugene. Sophomore Charlotte Ffrench-O'Carroll qualified for the championships in the 1500m, where she is ranked 46th with a season best of 4:27.58. The 1500m will have two rounds in Greensboro with the first round having 4 heats, the top 5 and the next 4 fastest times qualifying for the second round in Greensboro. The quarterfinals of the 1500m will have two heats with the top 5 from each heat and the next 2 fastest times qualifying for Eugene.

The Men will have three athletes in the 1500m, Sophomore Dominic Channon who is ranked 7th with a season best of 3:42.25, Senior Hayden McLaren and Sophomore Julian Matthews who are tied at 14th with both having season best of 3:43.95. The qualifying procedure will be the same as the women for the 1500m, having two rounds in Greensboro with the first round having 4 heats, the top 5 and the next 4 fastest times qualifying for the second round in Greensboro. The quarterfinals of the 1500m will have two heats with the top 5 from each heat and the next 2 fastest times qualifying for Eugene. Senior Tom Webb also qualified in the 10K where he is ranked 47th with a season best of 30:09.46. As in the women 10k, there will be one section of the 10k in Greensboro and the top 12 qualifying to Eugene.
