[Pcalumnixctrack] Providence Men's and Women's Cross Country 2011 Season With Wins at UNH!

The Providence Friars Men's and Women's Cross Country programs opened their 2011 campaigns with solid wins over The University of New Hampshire and The University of Maine this past Saturday. The women's team was led by Friar junior All American and individual race winner, Shelby Greany, in a time of 17:17 for the 4k course. Senior All American, Hannah Davidson was fourth overall in the season opener with a time of 17:56. Behind Davidson was junior Samantha Roecker (5th - 18:27), freshman Julie Solimine (6th - 18:28), sophomore Grace Thek (7th - 18:29), and senior Mary Kate Champagne (8th - 18:43). Sophomore Erin Murphy (16th - 20:20), freshmen Caile Kohlbrenner (17th - 20:22), and sophomore Elizabeth DeVivo (18th - 20:28) rounded out the performance for the Friars. The women won the tri -meet with a score of 23 points to UNH's 41 and Maine's 65.

The Friar men were led by senior All American and individual race winner, David McCarthy in a time of 18:30 over the 6k course. McCarthy was followed by senior Dom Channon (3rd - 19:19),  junior Ahmed Ali (4th - 19:45), freshman Liam Hillery (5th - 19:46), and junior Eric Malnati (8th - 20:06). Also racing for the Friars were junior Alex Wallace (10th - 20:17), senior Corey Brunelle (12th - 20:23), freshmen Luke Perron (17th- 20:43), and freshmen Phelan McCormack (30th - 22:03). The Friar men won the tri-meet with 21 points to UNH's 55 and Maine's 57.

The Friars will continue their season this  Saturday at Bryant University. The race starts at 10:00am. Saturday will mark the debut of senior All Americans Lee Carey (2010 Big East XC Individual champion) and Julian Matthews along with freshmen Shane Quinn and Ben Connor. David McCarthy, Dom Channon, and Liam Hillery will not race. Saturday will also be season openers for sophomore All American Emily Sisson and sophomore Laura Nagel, while Shelby Greany will not race.
