PROVIDENCE COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS TO OPEN AT UNH
Men’s and No. 7 Women’s cross country teams to have their first race at UNH on Friday, August 31.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s cross country teams are to compete at the University of New Hampshire on Friday, August 31 marking the first cross country race of the season.  The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m.
For the men, senior captains Ahmed Ali (Boston, Mass.) and Eric Malnati (Walpole, N.H.) will lead the way for the Friars. Sophomores Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland), Liam Hillery (Smithfield, R.I.), Luke Perron (West Hartford, Conn.) and Benjamin Connor (Derby, England), junior Jonathan Hopkins (Bridgend, Wales) and senior Alex Wallace (Waipukurau, New Zealand) will also be returning.  Quinn finished 17th at the 2011 NCAA Northeast Regional Championships.
Two freshmen, Christian Costello (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Brendan Sullivan (Foxboro, Mass.), and graduate student Anthony Gonsalves (Pawtucket, R.I.) will be debuting for the Friars.
Senior Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.) and junior Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) will lead the way for the No. 7 Friar women. Greany finished the 2012 outdoor season as an All-American in the 3,000 meter steeplechase after a 10th place finish at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Greany also won the BIG EAST Championship in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Nagel finished sixth at the 2011 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships and placed second in the 5,000 meters at the 2012 BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships.
In addition to Greany and Nagel, juniors Erin Murphy (Easton, Mass.), Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Elizabeth DeVivo (Riverside, Conn.) and Molly McCann (Rockville Center, N.Y.), and sophomores Devyn Pryor (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Caile Kohlbrenner (Sparkill, N.Y.) will be returning.
Four incoming freshmen, Katie Sischo (Jamesville, N.Y.), Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.), Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Kathleen Powell (Wrentham, Mass.) will make their debut for the Friars.  Sischo finished fourth at the 2011 Nike Cross Country Nationals and also garnered All-America honors her sophomore, junior and senior high school years.  Mullins placed fourth at the New York Federation Cross Country Championships in 2011, while Keating was the 2012 Individual Indoor Track State Champion in the 1,500 meters and 3,000 meters and also was an All-American in outdoor and indoor track in 2012.  Powell took second at the 2012 Massachusetts State cross-country meet.
