Providence College Track Standout Emily Sisson Preparing for US Olympic Trials
Rising junior to race in 5,000-meter semifinals on June 25.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College distance runner Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) will compete at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials on Monday, June 25 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Sisson will run the semifinals of the 5,000 meters, with heats beginning at 9:05 p.m. eastern.

Sisson is the first Providence College track athlete to take part in the U. S. trials while still an undergraduate. She earned her way with a qualifying time of 15:35.54 at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif. on April 20.

The rising junior had an outstanding campaign for the Friars, her first since transferring from the University of Wisconsin. She became a First Team All-American this past outdoor season, placing fourth in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Championship. Earlier in the spring, she earned her first BIG EAST individual title in the same event. During the 2011-12 indoor season, she garnered Second Team All-America honors in the 3,000.

At the trials, Sisson will be in the same field as another athlete with local ties, Molly Huddle, an event favorite who trains in Providence. Former Friar Katie DiCamillo ’09 (Garden City, N.Y.) will challenge the 10,000-meter final on Friday, June 22 at 10:05 p.m. eastern. That race will also be aired live on the NBC Sports Network.
