SISSON PLACES 12TH AT OLYMPIC TRIALS
Friar distance standout strong against nation’s best.

EUGENE, OREGON – Providence College distance runner Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) placed 12th in the final of the 5,000-meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials, finishing within the pack against the nation’s best Thursday evening at Hayward Field.

The rising junior crossed in 15:34.68, narrowly missing a new personal best at the distance by .14 of a second. Sisson finished the endeavor just over 20 seconds behind the winner, Julie Culley (15:13.77).

Providence resident and friend of the Friar track program Molly Huddle placed second in the race with a clocking of 15:14:40 and will join Culley at the Olympics, along with the third place finisher, Kim Conley, who timed in at 15:19.79.

For Sisson, the effort in the Olympic Trials completes a highly successful first year at Providence College. Earlier this outdoor season, she became a First Team All-American with a fourth-place finish in the 5,000 at the NCAA Championships. She also claimed her first BIG EAST title in the same event. This past indoor season, she was a Second-Team All-American.
