Providence College Track and Field Wraps BIG EAST Championships
Matthews Fifth in 1500; Friars leave Tampa with two titles.

TAMPA, FLORIDA – The Providence College men’s and women’s track and field teams completed competition at the 2012 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships Sunday.

On the men’s side, senior Julian Matthews (Nelson, New Zealand) placed fifth in the 1500-meter finals, crossing in 3:52.24. Teammate Alex Wallace (Waipukarau, New Zealand) was seventh in the same event.  The junior timed in at 3:54.71.

Also of note Sunday, the Friar women’s 4 x 800-meter relay team placed ninth. The quartet of Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Laura Isabelle (Troy, N.Y.) and Devyn Pryor (Dartmouth, Mass.) finished in 9:08.80.

The Providence women return home with the 18th and 19th BIG EAST individual titles in program history. On Friday night, junior Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.) earned her second conference outdoor title in the 3000-meter steeplechase, crossing in 10:08.76, while Davidson earned second place with a 10:09.70. On Saturday, sophomore teammate Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, N.Y.) won the 5000-meters in 15:45.83.

In terms of the team scores, the Friar women were 12th out of 15 schools with 33 points. The PC men were 13th with 14 points,
