Providence College Women’s Track & Field Competes at 2013 Fordham Season Opener

McCarthy takes home a first-place in the mile.


Fordham, N.Y. - The Providence College women’s track and field team opened the indoor season on Friday, Dec. 6, competing at the 2013 Fordham Season Opener in Fordham, N.Y.


The women had several strong performances in the one mile run, claiming the top five spots. Senior Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.) placed first in a time of 5:09.2. Teammates Katie Sischo (Jamesville, N.Y.) and Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) closely followed in times of 5:09.6 and 5:13.6, respectively. Sophomore Katie Powell (Wrentham, Mass.) and senior Elizabeth DeVivo (Riverside, Conn.) rounded out the top five.


The Friar women also had impressive finishes in the 800 meter run and the 400 meter dash. Junior Caile Kohlbrenner (Sparkhill, N.Y.) placed third in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:22.0. In the 400 meter dash, junior Taylor Corder (Corinth, Miss.) placed second with a time of 1:00.9 and junior Kelsey Dermody (Norton, Mass.) placed third in a time of 1:01.1.


The Friar women are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Boston University Mini Meet. The meet will begin at 5:00 p.m.
