Providence College Men’s Track & Field Opens Season At Fordham

Reid kicks-off season with a first place finish in the high jump.


Fordham, N.Y. - The Providence College men’s track and field team opened the indoor season on Friday, Dec. 6, competing at the 2013 Fordham Season Opener in Fordham, N.Y.


The Friar men had strong performances on the track in the 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, and One Mile Run. Sophomore Austin King (Kempton, Pa.) finished first in the 400 meter dash in a time of 51.0. In the 800 meter run, the Friars took home second and third place finishes. Joseph Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) placed second in a time of 1:56.1, and freshman James Campbell (Cumberland, Maine) finished third in 1:58.6. In the One Mile Run, freshman Hugh Armstrong (Balina, County Mayo, Ireland) was the Friars top-finisher, placing third in a time of 4:25.5. Sophomore Stephen Robertson (Wakefield, Mass.) was the Friars next highest finisher, placing fifth in a time of 4:27.7.


The Friar men also had a top-finisher in field events. Junior Phillip Reid (Oceanport, N.J.) placed first in the high jump with a height of 2.04 meters.


The Friar men are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Boston University Mini Meet. The meet will begin at 5:00 p.m.
