Indoor Track Competes at Columbia

Three Friars run BIG EAST Outdoor Championship qualifying times.

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Providence College men's and women's track teams competed at  the Columbia Final Chance Qualifier in New York, N.Y. on March 1-2. Three Friars qualified for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship in May.

On the women’s side, junior Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.) competed in the 800-meter run. McCarthy finished third in her heat and 12th overall with a time of 2:12.41. Her time qualifies her for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.

>From the men’s squad, freshmen Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England) and Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) ran in the mile.  Dixon finished fourth in a time of 4:05.68 and Oakley finished sixth with a time of 4:06.01.  Both Friars qualified for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.  Classmate Joseph Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) finished 16th in the 800-meters with a time of 1:54.64.
