PROVIDENCE COLLEGE WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK OPENS SEASON AT STONY BROOK QUAD MEET
Men’s team features six victories, including Patrick Bowler’s BIG EAST qualifying win in the javelin;
Roecker, Collins and Murphy each qualify for ECAC Championship in the 3,000 meters for women.

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Providence College men’s and women’s track teams opened the 2013 outdoor schedule at the Stony Brook Quad Meet on Wednesday, March 27 in Stony Brook, N.Y.  The women’s action was highlighted by a trio of runners who qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 3,000-meter run.

On the men’s side, Patrick Bowler (Westwood, Mass.) qualified for the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the javelin.  He won the event at the Stony Brook Quad Meet with a distance of 55.36 meters.  Phillip Reid (Oceanport, N.J.) won the men’s long jump with a distance of 6.07 meters.

The 4x800-meter relay team comprised of Nikolas Rebovich (New Hartford, N.Y.), Joseph Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.), Brendan Sullivan (Foxboro, Mass.) and Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England) took first place with a time of 8:03.76.  Dixon also placed first individually in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.99.  Nik Andrews (Clarksburg, Mass.) and Ahmed Ali (Boston, Mass.) also earned first-place finishes in their respective events.  Andrews won the 300-meter dash (36.05), while Ali paced all runners in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:39.77.

On the women’s side, Samantha Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.) won the 3,000-meter run in a time of 9:50.77.  Her time qualified her for the ECAC Championships in the event.  Sarah Mary Collins (Basel, Switzerland) and Erin Murphy (Easton, Mass.) also qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 3,000 meters, finishing second and third, respectively.  Collins posted a time of 9:51.28, while Murphy finished in a time of 9:52.43.

Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.) also took a victory for the Friar women, while competing in the 1,500-meter run.  McCarthy took the win with a time of 4:43.32.
