Former Friars Smith and Dicamillo Race In NY Marathon
Dicamillo was the second American to cross the finish line.
New York, N.Y. - Former Providence College women's cross country and track stars Kim Smith '05 and Katie Dicamillo '09 competed in the New York Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 3. Smith finished sixth overall, while Dicamillo finished 15th.
Smith finished the marathon in a time of 2:28:49. Last time out, Smith won the half marathon at the B.A.A. Distance Medley to win the entire three-race series. She crossed the finish line of that race 1:38 ahead of the previous race record to win her second B.A.A. Distance Medley title.
During her four year career with Providence, Smith earned four NCAA titles. She won the 2004 NCAA Cross Country individual title and the 3,000 and 5,000 meter NCAA Indoor Track titles at the 2004 championships. After her career at Providence, Smith went on to become a three-time Olympian for New Zealand, competing at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Dicamillo finished the New York Marathon in a time of 2:40:03 as the second American to cross the finish line. While competing with the Friars, Dicamillo earned two ECAC Individual Championship Titles in the 5,000 meter race (2008 & 2010). Dicamillo was a member of the 2006 cross country squad that won the BIG EAST Championship title. She also earned All-BIG EAST Cross Country Honors three times during her career (2005, 2006 & 2007).
