Providence College’s Ray Treacy Named Northeast Coach Of The Year

Treacy earned BIG EAST Women’s Coach of the Year earlier this season.

New Orleans, La. - Head Coach Ray Treacy of the Providence College men’s and women’s cross country team was named Northeast Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year by his peers. It was announced today (Nov. 19) by the USTFCCCA.

Treacy led the women to an impressive six team victories on the season, including the program’s first BIG EAST Title (Nov. 15) since 2006. Treacy also led the Friars to a first place finish at the Boston College Invitational (Sept. 27), which included the reigning NCAA Champions, Oregon.

Treacy also coached senior Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) to a BIG EAST Individual Title, the program’s first since 2005 (Fiona Crombie`05).

Last time out, the Friars rolled competition at the Northeast Regional Championships, with all five scorers in the top-20 for a total of 44 points to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. Providence’s 44 points were 40 better than the second place team, Dartmouth (84 points). Providence was the only team to have all five of its scoring runners in the top-20, with all five receiving All-Northeast Regional honors.

“I am very honored to have received this award,” Head Coach Ray Treacy shared. “It is recognition for the fantastic season our ladies have put together this year.“

In 30 seasons, Treacy has been one of the nation’s most successful coaches, coaching 59 All-Americans, who have received 159 All-America accolades. He has also coached 13 NCAA Individual Champions in cross country and track, 44 BIG EAST Individual Champions and 11 Olympians. In addition, his teams have captured one NCAA Cross Country Championship, 13 NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships, 21 BIG EAST Cross Country Titles and 20 New England Championships.

Treacy’s squad has been in the top-four, including five weeks at the No. 1 position, in the USTFCCCA national coaches poll this season. Both the men and the women will wrap up the 2013 cross country season at the NCAA Cross Country Championships hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind. on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center. The meet will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23 with the men’s 10k set to start at noon, while the women will start at 1:15 p.m.
