The Friars will compete against 16 other ranked opponents.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women’s cross country team will head to Madison, Wis. to take part in one of the largest meets of the season, second to the National Championship itself. The Friars will look to compete at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course on Saturday, Oct. 19 in a 12:00 p.m. CT start.

Seniors Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.), Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand), Erin Murphy (Easton, Mass.) and Grace Thek (Melbourne, Australia) will lead sophomores Sarah Mary Collins (Basel, Switzerland) Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) and freshmen Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) and Bryanna Allison (Lowell, Mass.) in the race.

The Friars will race against 16 top-30 teams in Wisconsin, including seven top-10 teams. Top-ranked Providence will take on No. 3 Arizona, No. 4 Washington, No. 7 New Mexico, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 9 Michigan State and No. 10 San Francisco. The Friars will also face northeast regional schools and nationally ranked No. 13 Dartmouth, No. 15 Cornell and No. 24 Boston College. Overall 36 teams will be competing at the invitational, including northeast schools Columbia, Harvard and Syracuse.

Last season, Providence placed sixth out of 49 teams at the invitational. Collins was the Friars top finisher in the race with a sixth place finish in a time of 19:50. Nagel followed Collins with a 16th place finish in the 5k race.

The Friars top competitors last competed at the Boston College Invitational, where Providence knocked off reigning national champions and then third-ranked Oregon to claim a first place finish. This season, Sisson has led the Friars with two first place finishes, including her first place finish at the Boston College Invitational. Nagel and Collins also have had top performances for the Friars as the three combined have claimed all three top-three finishes for the Friars in each race they have raced together.
