Providence College Men’s Cross Country Travels To Wisconsin For Title Test
The Friars will compete against 19 other ranked opponents.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s cross country team will head to Madison, Wis. to take part in one of the largest meets of the season, second to the National Championship itself. The Friars will look to compete at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course on Saturday, Oct. 19 in a 12:00 p.m. CT start.

Graduate student Julian Saad (Trumbull, Conn.) and juniors Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland), Benjamin Connor (Derby, England), Brian Doyle (Swansea, Mass.) and Liam Hillery (Smithfield, R.I.) will look to lead sophomores Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England) and Christian Costello (Ridgewood, N.J.) along with freshman Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) in the race.

The Friars will race against 19 top-30 teams in Wisconsin, including five top-10 teams. Seventeenth-ranked Providence will take on No. 3 Northern Arizona, No. 5 BYU, No. 6 Arkansas, No. 7 Portland and No. 8 Columbia. The Friars will also face northeast regional schools and nationally ranked No. 27 Dartmouth and No. 11 Syracuse. Overall 35 teams will be competing at the invitational on Saturday.

Last season, Providence placed 38th out of 46 teams at the invitational. Quinn was the Friars top finisher with a 84th place finish in a time of 24:13 in the 8k race. Dixon and Connor also competed in the race where two placed 203rd and 230th, respectively.

The Friars top competitors last competed at the Boston College Invitational, where Providence finished third ahead of then eighth-ranked Wisconsin. The Friars were led by Saad, who earned a fifth place finish with a season-best 24:16 in the 8k race. This season, Quinn has been the Friars top-performer this season, with two first place finishes and three top-two team finishes. Connor, Doyle, Saad and Quinn have all notched top-three team finishes for the Friars this season.
