Providence College Men’s Cross Country Finishes 12th At Wisconsin Invitational
Quinn claimed a top-ten finish among some of the nation’s top runners.

Madison, Wis. – The Providence College men’s cross country team turned in a 12th place finish at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational today (Oct. 19). The Friars saw junior Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) claim a ninth place finish out of a field of 280 competitors.

Providence claimed 12th out of 36 team, with 382 points. The Friars were one of 20 top-30 teams in the meet. Providence faced No. 3 Northern Arizona, No. 5 BYU, No. 6 Arkansas, No. 7 Portland and No. 8 Columbia. The Friars also faced northeast regional schools and nationally ranked No. 27 Dartmouth and No. 11 Syracuse.

Quinn finished first for the Friars in ninth place with a season-best time of 23:32 in the 8k race for his third top finish for the Friars. Classmate Benjamin Connor (Derby, England) was the second Friar to cross the finish line with a time of 23:51 in the 30th spot.

Junior Brian Doyle (Swansea, Mass.) was the next scoring Friar with a 104th place finish in a time of 23:51. Graduate student Julian Saad (Trumbull, Conn.) followed Doyle with a 114th place finish in a time of 24:26. Sophomore Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England) was the final Friar to score, with a time of 24:32 Dixon claimed a 132nd spot.

Sophomore Christian Costello (Ridgewood, N.J.) and freshman Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) were the sixth and seventh Providence runners to finish. Costello finished 218th with a time of 25:28, while Crawley finished 221st with a time of 25:29.

Providence is back in action on Oct. 25, when the team will look to compete at the CCSU Mini Meet in New Britain, Conn. It will be the final meet before the Friars head to the BIG EAST Championships in Kenosha, Wis. on Nov. 2.
