Providence College Women’s Cross Country Off To Stony Brook, N.Y.

The women will look to build off a first-place finish at UNH.

Providence, R.I. - The Providence College women’s cross country teams will compete at the Stony Brook Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 14. The women will race against Columbia, Marist College, and Stony Brook.



Fourteen competitors will represent Providence at Stony Brook. Two freshmen, Bryanna Allison (Lowell, Mass.) and Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.), will join sophomores Sarah Mary Collins (Basel, Switzerland), Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.), Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.), and Kathleen Powell (Wrentham, Mass.). Rocha will make her collegiate debut for the Friars, while Mullins will compete for the first time of the 2013 season.



Juniors Caile Kohlbrenner (Sparkhill, N.Y.) and Julie Solimine (Haverhill, Mass.) along with seniors Elizabeth DeVivo (Riverside, Conn.), Molly McCann (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Erin Murphy (Easton, Mass.), Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand), and Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) will also be competing Saturday.



The Friars will compete against Columbia, who was ranked seventh in the preseason regional poll, Stony Brook, who landed 12th in the preseason regional poll, and Marist College. Providence will enter Saturday with the top-ranking in both the regional and national preseason poll.



Last season, the women finished first (of three) with 24 points in a 5k race at the Stony Brook Invitational. Nagel and Collins led the Friars in the win with a second and third-place finish, respectively. Nagel finished in a time of 17:42.11, while Collins crossed the finish line at 17:42.30. Murphy (12th), McCarthy (15th), and Kohlbrenner (20th) also made appearances in the 2012 Stony Brook Invitational.



On Saturday, Aug. 31, the women claimed a first-place win at the UNH Dual Meet to kick off the 2013 season. Nagel, Collins, and Sisson finished the 5k race together with a time of 17:07 to take the top three spots. Murphy also claimed a top-five finish with a time of 17:53 to finish fifth.
