Providence College Women's Track Begins Competition At Sam Howell Invitational And Wrap-Ups At Stanford

Sarah Mary Collins captures second-best program time in 5000 meter run.



PRINCETON, N.J. - The Providence College women's track and field team began competition at the Sam Howell Invitational (Princeton, N.J.) and Stanford Invitational (Palo Alto, Calif.) on April 4.



At the Stanford Invitational, the Friars saw sophomore Sarah Mary Collins (Basel, Switzerland) post the second-best time by a Providence runner in the 5000 meter run (Record held by Kim Smith '05 - 15:09.72). Collins finished the race in a personal-best and ECAC qualifying time of 15:31.03.



Freshman Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) also earned an ECAC qualifying with a personal-best time of 16:33.10 in the 5000 meter run at the Stanford Invitational. Graduate student Samantha Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.) was the third Friar to run an ECAC qualifying time in Palo Alto (16:47.77).



Sophomore Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) also competed in Palo Alto, where she finished seventh in her respective heat with a time of 4:35.11 in the 1500 meter run.



At the Sam Howell Invitational, sophomore Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.) posted an ECAC Championship qualifying time to capture 12th in the 5000 meter run. Mullins finished the race in a time of 17:15.15, while classmate Katie Sischo (Jamesville, N.Y.) finished in a time of 17:42.08, good for 26th place.



The Friars will continue with competition at the Sam Howell Invitational Saturday, April 5.
