Providence College's Nagel Leads Friars At Penn Relays

Laura Nagel captured a first-place finish at the prestigious Penn Relays in the 3000 meter run.



PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Providence College women's outdoor track team competed at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. at Franklin Field today (April 24), where senior Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) out-kicked competition to take first-place in the 3000 meter run.



Nagel posted an ECAC Championship qualifying performance with a conference-leading time of 9:07.90. Nagel was followed by sophomore Sarah Mary Collins (Basel, Switzerland), who claimed third with a personal-best and ECAC qualifying time of 9:11.97.



The Friars carried success into the 5000 meter run, where freshman Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) claimed seventh overall. Rocha's time of 16:33.96 was an ECAC Championship qualifying time and nearly clipped her personal-record (16:33.91) set previously this season.



Graduate student Samantha Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.) followed Rocha in 10th-place with an ECAC qualifying time of 16:49.44.



The Friars return to action on Sunday, April 27 when they travel to crosstown rival Brown for the Brown Invitational. The meet is set to start at 11:00 a.m.
