Providence College Men’s And Women’s Track Open Indoor Season


Emily Sisson Runs Fifth Fastest 5,000 Meters In NCAA History For Opening Weekend


PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men’s and women’s indoor track team opened up their season this weekend with performances at the Fordham Christmas Classic (Dec. 5) in the Bronx, N.Y. and the BU Season Opener (Dec. 6) in Boston, Mass.

Senior Emily Sisson highlighted the weekend with a second place finish at BU in the 5,000 meters in a blazing time of 15:21.8. The time marked the fifth fastest indoor 5,000 meters run in NCAA history, two of which belong to Providence College alum Kim Smith ’05. Sisson’s performance also is the sixth fastest indoor 5,000 meters all-time by an American and puts her ranked third in the world for the 2014 calender year. The current world leader is Molly Huddle (15:13), also coached by Providence College head coach Ray Treacy.

The majority of the team competed at the Fordham Christmas Classic with the Friars collecting four first-place finishes. For the men, junior Joseph Vercollone won the 1,000 meter run in a time of 2:29.6. For the women, senior Caile Kohlbrenner won the mile in a time of 5:06.2, while the freshmen duo of Paige Santos and Michelle Langlois both tied for first in the high jump (1.52 meters).

In addition, freshman Aaron Hanlon won the 5,000 meters at the BU Season Opener in a time of 14:37.02.
