Providence College Men’s Indoor Track Competes At BU Invitational

The Friars had six personal best performances and seven IC4A qualifying times.


Boston, Mass. - The Providence College men’s track and field team competed at the BU John Thomas Terrier Invitational today (Jan. 25) in Boston, Mass. Providence saw seven Friars earn IC4A Championship qualifying times in their respective events.


Sophomore Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) crossed the finish line ninth in the one mile run in a field of 176 runners with a personal best time of 4:01.05. Oakley’s time qualified him for the IC4A Championships in the one mile event.


Juniors Benjamin Connor (Derby, England) and Liam Hillery (Smithfield, R.I.) earned IC4A Championship qualifying times in the men’s 5000 meter run. Connor finished third with a personal best time of 14:17.98, while Hillery finished fourth in a personal best of 14:20.81.


Graduate students Julian Saad (Trumbull, Conn.) and Kevin Cooper (Waterford, Ireland) finished in the top-10 of the 3000 meter run. Saad finished eighth with a time of 8:03.34, while Cooper finished ninth in a time of 8:04.29. Both runners eclipsed personal best performances in the 3000 meter event for IC4A Championship qualifying times.


Sophomore Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England) joined Saad and Cooper in the 3000 meter run, with a 23rd place finish in a time of 8:18.17, also an IC4A Championship qualifying time.


In the 1000 meter run, sophomore Joseph Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) posted a personal best time of 2:24.71 for seventh place out of a field of 81 runners. Vercollone was Providence’s seven Friar to turn in an IC4A Championship qualifying time.

Providence is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 1, when the Friars will look to compete at the URI Coaches Invitational. The meet will take place in Kingston, R.I. and begin at 11:00 a.m.
