Providence College's Nagel And Sisson To NCAA Indoor Championships

Sisson will compete in the 5000 meter run, while Nagel will run in the 3000 meter race.



PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's track and field team had two runners qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships (March 14-15) in Albuquerque, N.M. Seniors Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) and Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) will represent Providence in the 5000 and 3000 meter runs, respectively.



Sisson qualified for the NCAA's with a time of 15:40.62 in the 5000 meter run at the Boston University Season Opener on Dec. 7. Sisson later went on to capture her second career BIG EAST indoor crown (Feb. 21) with a first-place finish (16:08.01) in the 5000 meter run.



The Missouri native also captured second in the 3000 meter run at the BIG EAST Championships. Sisson was named BIG EAST Female Track Athlete of the Week on Feb. 11 for her first-place finish in the 3000 meter run at the BU Valentine Invitational. Sisson ran a personal-best time of 9:00.76 to nab the weekly honor.



Nagel earned her qualifying time for the NCAA 3000 meter event with a personal-best time of 9:01.35 at the BU Valentine Invitational (Feb. 7). Nagel, like Sisson, went on to claim a BIG EAST Indoor Title with a victory in the 3000 meter run (9:07.26). She also claimed second in the 5000 meter run at the BIG EAST Championships on Feb. 21.



Both Sisson and Nagel earned All-BIG EAST honors for their performances at the BIG EAST Championships.



Nagel will be making her NCAA indoor debut at the championships on Saturday, March 15 at 7:55 p.m. as the third ranked competitor in her event. Sisson will be racing on Friday, March 14 at 8:45 p.m. in her third indoor NCAA Championship appearance. Last year, Sisson finished ninth in the 5000 meter run, earning Second Team All-America honors. Sisson will enter Friday ranked second overall in the 5000 meter run.
