Providence College Women's Outdoor Track Opens At Stony Brook

The Friars saw top-three performances in five events on the day.



STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Providence College women's track and field team competed at the 2014 outdoor season at the Stony Brook University Spring Opener on March 29. The Friars claimed one first-place as well as two second-place and third-place finishes on the cold rainy Saturday afternoon in Stony Brook, N.Y.



In the 800 meter run, junior Caitlin Abelseth (Voorheesville, N.Y.) claimed second-place with a time of 2:19.56.



Classmate Kelsey Dermody (Norton, Mass.) also had a top-three finish in her respective event, the 400 meter hurdles. Dermody finished third with a time of 1:13.55, while sophomore Allesandra Foresti (Vietri sul Mare, Italy) followed closely in fourth (1:14.31).



Junior Devyn Pryor (Dartmouth, Mass.) and senior Elizabeth DeVivo (Riverside, Conn.) claimed second and fifth, respectively, in the 1500 meter run. Pryor finished in a time of 4:49.53, while DeVivo crossed at 4:56.38.



The Friars saw freshmen Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) take first in the 2000 meter steeplechase with a time of 7:17.63.



Crossing at 10:13.33, sophomore Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.) finished third in the 3000 meter run for Providence.



The Friars return to action when the team sends competitors to the Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, N.J. and the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. from April 4-5.
