No. 11 Providence College Men’s Cross Country Travels To NCAA Championships

The men’s race is set to go off at 1:00 p.m. in Terre Haute Ind. on Nov. 22.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The 11th-ranked Providence College men's cross country team will compete at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, Nov. 22.

The Friars received their 11th-place ranking in the USTFCCCA Polls on Nov. 17 after a second-place finish the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on Nov. 14.

Leading the way on Saturday for the Friars will be a group of seniors. Benjamin Connor (Derby, England), Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland), Brian Doyle (Swansea, Mass.) and Liam Hillery (Smithfield, R.I.) will return to Terre Haute with experience from last years’ NCAA Championship. Connor and Quinn both finished among the top-45 individuals in 2013, almost earning All-America honors. These two, along with Doyle, will both look to grab their first All-America honors this year.

Both Quinn and Doyle were named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week this season. Quinn has received the honor twice (Sept. 23 and Oct. 21), while Doyle was named on Sept. 30 for his third-place performance at the ‘Battle in Beantown’ Coast-to-Coast Battle at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. on Sept. 26.

Joining the seniors will be juniors Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) and Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England). Earlier in the season, Oakley earned Corvias ECAC Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week on Oct. 15 after he finished second at the New England Championships on Oct. 11, helping the team tie for first .

Dixon, like the seniors, also will add his 2013 experience at the NCAA Championships to the squad.

Rounding out the eight men travelling to Terre Haute, sophomore Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman Aaron Hanlon (Drogheda, Ireland) will make the trip, with Crawley as the Friars’ seventh man and Hanlon on standby.

Saturday will mark yet another appearance at the NCAA Championships for the men. Providence has sent a team to the championships a total of 40 times prior to this year, and 18 out of the last 20 years. In 2000, Keith Kelly ’00 came away with the individual title as well as helping the team to a third-place finish.

The men’s 10km race is set to go off at 1:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ncaa.com. For live twitter updates, follow @friarsxctrack.
