Providence College Men’s Cross Country Finish Third At
BIG EAST Championships

The Friars finished with nine runners in the top-25.

CARMEL, Ind. - The 17th-ranked Providence College men's cross country team finished third at the BIG EAST Championships in Carmel, Ind. on Friday, Oct. 31. Senior Benjamin Connor (Derby, England) was the first Friar across the line in eighth-place (23:59.9).

Senior Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) finished a second behind Connor. Quinn placed ninth in a time of 24:01.6.

The third Friar across the finish was junior Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand). Oakley finished the 8km course in a time of 24:19.7 for a 13th-place finish. Connor, Quinn and Oakley each earned All-BIG EAST honors for their top-15 finish.

The fourth, fifth and sixth runners for Providence all finished within 10 seconds of each other. Senior Brian Doyle (Swansea, Mass) crossed the line in 16th-place (24:28.8), junior Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England) finished in a time of 24:36.0 for 18th–place and sophomore Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) placed 20th (24:37.4).

Rounding out the Friars top seven was freshman Aaron Hanlon (Drogheda, Ireland). Hanlon finished 23rd in a time of 24:40.6.

The Friars finished with a total of 64 points.

“This was a good blow out for the men,” said head coach Ray Treacy. “We decided the night before to go for the win and run aggressively. The conditions weren’t ideal with rain and wind but the men ran solidly with all nine guys running under 25 minutes. We are in good shape for NCAAs and will go into regionals ready to get the job done.”

The Friars are back in action on Nov. 14 at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships in Van Cordlandt Park, Bronx, N.Y. on Nov. 14. Races are set to go off at 11:00 a.m. The top-two teams at Regionals will secure automatic bids to the NCAA Championships 8 days later in Terre Haute, Ind.
